暑假中，我笑着读完了马克·吐温写的《百万英磅》。
这本书讲述了一个美国穷小子亨利·亚当斯在伦敦的一次奇遇。伦敦的两位富翁兄弟打赌，把一张无法兑现的百万英镑借给一个诚实、聪明的穷人，看他在一个月内如何收场，哥哥认为他会饿死，因为他无法证明这些钱是他自我的，会受到别人怀疑，连银行都不会让他存钱；弟弟则认为他会过得很好，于是他们兄弟俩将一百万英镑的支票借给了这个贫穷的人——亨利。一个月的期限到了，亨利不仅仅没有饿死或被捕，反倒成了富翁，并且赢得了一位漂亮小姐的感情。这个故事形象的描述了20世经初英国社会中势力、拜金的小人。

这部影片虽然搞笑，但它让我认识到的道理却十分深刻。在影片中，亚当得到支票刚开始冒险时，由于他的衣服很旧，餐厅里的人都看不起他，给他很差的座位，吃完饭后还态度粗鲁地向他要钱。而当亚当亮出那张一百万英镑的支票时，那些人立刻对他点头哈腰，连连道歉，不仅仅免了他的账单，还送他出门。之后亚当的支票丢了，这些人又恢复了本相。当亚当的支票找回时，这些人又立刻把他奉若上宾，比较十分强烈。让人们一眼看穿了他们的内心：只明白巴结那些有权威、有金钱、有地位的人，对穷人则恶声恶气，不屑一顾，他们变脸比翻书还快，这些人的内心是最肮脏的。其实，一个人的内心、品格比他的地位和钱财重要多了。

一看到这个题目，我产生了疑问：作者难道要写自己有百万英镑吗？可是一看下面一行——马克。吐温中短篇小说集！原来它不是一个故事。我不禁产生了好奇心。
以前，我早就听说过了这位鼎鼎大名的讽刺家，批判家了。谁又知道这本书里揭露了多少社会的黑暗呢！因为它是24个小故事组成，所以，我选了一个典型故事——《三万元的遗产》，分享给大家。
这个故事主要讲了一个簿记员——塞拉丁。福斯特与他的妻子爱勒克特拉生活幸福美满。可是有一天，福特斯收到远方伯父的遗产——三万元！一笔不小的数字，让这个家庭发生变化，夫妻俩一边努力幻想、思考如何用这笔钱。因为他们十分能干，所以五年时间里面，他们就变成了每年收入一亿两千万的大富翁。他们的房子已经不能简单地用豪华来形容了。有句老话说得好，幸福总在灾祸边。他们投的金边证券股票五个小时掉了95档。他们欠满外债，许多人过来抄家，瞬间他们又成了叫花子。贫穷后，他们只活了两年。两年时间全用来悲伤，悔恨。他们最终悲叹——暴发的金钱只能带来苦恼，只会毁掉人的一生，伤透人们的心。
读完这个故事，我不禁愣了一下，心中发出感叹！唉，金钱果然是恶魔。人的欲望是无穷的。
后来，我又沉思了一番：主人公的命运是由那三万元的遗产引起的。可是他们先前的生活也不错呀！可是因为这巨产的诱惑，在人的贪婪下，它变成让人痛不欲生的毒药。
可是人总是想要有钱，变得富有的。这是人的向上之心。可是过多的渴望，欲望在一瞬间也会成为恶魔，就在投股那一天收手，一切就不会如此了呀。可是夫妻俩不能满足的欲望，让他们接受了命运的惩罚。而且，当他们一无所有的时候，他们还是能够重新来过呀！
现实社会中，有许多人也是这样的：有的人炒股，一直不肯撒手，最后输了，痛哭涕流，大喊可悲；有的人嫌工资不高，其实他已经不错了，可他仍不满，后来被老板炒鱿鱼了……

我读了《百万英镑》之后给我有一种非常特殊的感受，我认为那位得到百万英镑的那个人太幸运了，他不仅可以买到自己所想要的东西还可以成为百万富翁，可是刚开始他也有一些不幸运的遭遇，正是这些不幸的遭遇让我从那个得到百万英镑的人中遭遇中感受到了，有的人对穷人的看法和面对前他们可以低声下气。如果我要是得到了一张百万英镑我一定要捐给灾区，去帮助需要帮助的人。

今天，我无意中打开了马克、吐温写的百万英镑，故事写得太好了仿佛一下把我带到了现场。主人公亨利本是一个十分普通的人。一次他在驾船惬意的度周末时，不幸被风暴刮到了伦敦。不久他就变成了穷光蛋，身无分文。而这时两兄弟打赌，如果一个聪明而善良的穷人如果拿到了一张百万大钞会发生什么，而亨利就是被他们选中的人。而他也开始了神奇之旅。
所到之处人们纷纷拿出最谦卑的态度巴结他。无论他去干什么所有的店主都免费，白送，而却希望他多来几次。他的地位也扶摇直上超过一般的贵族直逼皇室，人们以结识他为荣。最后百万大钞不仅一分没花，还赚了二十万。绝对的讽刺。我从这个故事走出来时，心想为什么穷人不值得尊敬，而富人却值得尊敬呢。有的穷人也很值得尊敬。
比如，有一个捡垃圾的老爷爷天天捡大量臭哄哄的垃圾，应该是很艰难的维持自己生计的一位老人。很多人看不起他，给他开带有恶意的的玩笑。一次我们小学生为汶川的小朋友捐钱，这时我看到这位老爷爷也奋力挤到捐款的现场，很很困难的从兜里拿出一张皱巴巴的十元钱投到捐款箱里 什么话也没说就走了。
我看到这一幕是鼻子立刻酸酸的。他捐的钱虽然不多，却弥足珍贵。还有一次我在新闻看到兰考县的一位在医院门口卖水果的普通妇女，在十几年里收养了一百多个被遗弃在医院门口的有残疾的弃婴。可后来因为家里失火烧死了7个孩子而被起诉。但她依然值得我们尊敬。因为她毕竟救了100多个孩子的命啊。合上书以后，我由衷的感叹 马克‘吐温真是一位伟大的作家，我向他致敬。

一个穷人，意外的捡到了一张百万英镑。两个神仙打赌：“他肯定花不出去，如果三日内花出去，这百万英镑便是他的了！”果最后出乎人的意料，三次的失去，三次的获得，三次的偶遇，三次的让人啼笑皆非，这便是马克吐温幽默小说的真正魅力吧！最终钞票，悠悠的落在了酒店的红地毯上。小说把读者的胃口吊的足够的足，故事的发展波澜起伏，仿佛大海的波涛一般，一层未平一波又兴，这才是马克吐温真正的写作技巧吧。

From ridicule to flattery, people do not care who he is, but whether he is the holder of millions of dollars. Adams became a hot celebrity in the news and social circles.
